Gary is a successful and popular woodwind teacher, having taught privately since 2001 and in schools since 2006. He has a wealth of experience preparing students for examinations (99.8% success), music scholarships and awards. Having taught in over 18 schools throughout the boroughs of Richmond, Wandsworth and Sutton, Garynot only offers lessons in a 1:1 setting, but he also has experience in directing and organising ensembles, orchestras, bands and workshops.
Gary had a very musical upbringing, receiving tuition on piano from age 4, violin from age 7 and cornet from age 11. He took up saxophone in 1992, and found a strong and immediate affinity with this instrument. This also sparked his interest to learn and master the flute and clarinet.
His experience is supported by qualifications: he holds a CTABRSM Teaching Certificate, an LTCL Licentiate Performance Diploma in Jazz Saxophone, and three ABRSM Grade 8s.
Gary has performed professionally at numerous private and public venues, with his own jazz band and with other bands of various genres. He used to run regular jazz ‘jam’ sessions at The Bull's Head, Barnes and The Halo Jazz Bar, Battersea.
