  • Hailing from Cannock Chase, Tom graduated with a 2:1 Bachelor's degree with Honours and Master's with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he studied bass and contrabass trombones under Bob Hughes (Former London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia and Scottish National Orchestra) and David Vines (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra).

    Tom is also receiving tuition from bass trombonists James Buckle (Philharmonia), Christian Jones (Opera North), Simon Minshall (Back To The Future The Musical), Lyndon Meredith (London Philharmonic Orchestra), Joe Arnold (Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra) and Keith McNicoll (Royal Opera House Covent Garden).

    Tom has performed professionally with a number of orchestras in the United Kingdom and overseas including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The English National Ballet, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin and Manchester Camerata as part of the George Enescu Festival in Romania. He is also on the extra players list for a number of orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

    Tom’s teaching experience includes being a former trombone tutor at Keele University as well as positions as brass and piano teacher with music services in his home county of Staffordshire and at Castle House School in Shropshire. Tom has also covered with HDMT Music in London as well as working in workshops with the Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Welsh National Opera, Opera Tutti.


    Tom’s approach to teaching is to really focus on and practice the fundamentals of music making as well as playing an instrument. He believes that these are building blocks to improving your playing as well as positively encouraging students to enjoy, listen to and experience live music as much as possible.
